The huge success of Cider with Rosie, published in 1959, enabled Gloucestershire author Laurie Lee to buy the charming Rose Cottage in Slad near Stroud, where he remained for the rest of his life. Fifty years on, the Slad valley remains a stunning location and the surrounding Cotswolds a popular and sought-after area commanding prices that Lee could hardly have imagined.
